My penultimate newborn photoshoot of 2023 was with the gorgeous baby Lara. I absolutely LOVED this session, it was fun to get the headbands and some girly props out after a very boy heavy month in the studio.
As a Mum of two boys, being a newborn photographer gives me the freedom to unleash my girly side in the studio - something I love when I get the chance to do it! My house is a stereotypical pink-free zone where football is nearly always on the telly so Mum to Mum chat and an opportunity to play with headbands, flowers and pink stuff is always a refreshing change of scenery for me!
Over 8 years in the industry has meant I've accumulated lots of gorgeous newborn photography props over the years, and I'm constantly adding to my collection! There is pretty much every colour you could think of to choose from in the studio. You can have as much or as little creative input into your session as you'd like. I always start the session by discussing themes, colours and style choices. Lots of you have an idea of what you like/don't like already from browsing through my website and Instagram galleries, but sometimes I'm given completely free reign to do whatever I like - which can be a little daunting but I've gotten quite good at reading people's styles over the years.
For Lara's newborn photography session we worked mostly with neutrals as this is what works best in the family home, but Mum also requested a little bit of pink and girly - and I was more than happy to oblige!
Lara was an absolute star for her newborn photoshoot - she embraced the model life like a pro!
How cute is this baby bear hat!? If you've ever been to the studio you will know that I am absolutely obsessed with anything miniature, this mini pillow is adorable I've been using it more and more lately and all the babies have been loving a little bit of luxury for their studio naps!
I meet so many families in my job as a newborn photographer, each completely unique whilst all starting out on the incredible journey into parenthood. Lara's folks were such a joy to have in the studio, this little family of 3 was one of the happiest and most content I have photographed and I feel like that really shines through in their family images.
Truly the definition of being in the "baby bubble". This photograph is so special because not only will they look back on this in years to come and remember the happiness they felt in this moment, but Lara will look at this when she is grown up and know how loved she was right from day one. That's one of the most important aspects of my job as a newborn photographer, preserving moments that your children may not remember but will definitely want to look back on one day.
These black and white silhouette parent images are such a timeless classic, they won't age or date with time, I try to include them in as many of my newborn shoots as possible - the lighting and angle is also super forgiving for new parents or those who are a little camera shy!
This is one of my favourite images from Lara's newborn gallery. How could it not be!? She absolutely spoilt us with the most gorgeous smile and I was lucky enough to freeze the moment forever. SO precious.
