So I once wrote a blog titled "What to Expect when I'm Expecting You" and whilst most of the information in that still stands, I thought it might be a good idea to write a little upto date list of FAQ'S so that you can be fully prepared and know what to expect from your session if it is due to take place whilst restrictions are still in place in Hertfordshire. Hopefully I've covered most things but if you think of anything you'd like to know or something I've missed please pop it in the comments and I'll be happy to add to this blog as time goes on.
Are newborn photographers in Hertfordshire allowed to work at the moment?
Currently, as of Saturday 19th December 2020 when Hertfordshire was entered into Tier 4 (followed by National UK lockdown) we are not currently allowed to carry out newborn photoshoots in Hertfordshire. Nationally, whilst in lockdown this should also be the case.
Are other newborn photographers in Hertfordshire working currently?
As above no newborn photographers in Hertfordshire should be currently carrying out sessions. As an industry we stand united on this, and we eagerly anticipate the next government update when hopefully we will know more about when we can work again. *fingers crossed* !
What happens if my baby is older and no longer sleepy by the time my session is allowed to take place?
If your baby is out of the typical "newborn" stage by the time your session takes place and is too alert for the typical sleepy newborn poses, that's absolutely fine. We can still get beautiful images at this age and I'd love to meet you both. If you prefer you can also transfer your deposit to a session later in the year, perhaps once baby is sitting unaided. This is known as a "sitter" or milestone session (usually around 6 months).
Do I need to wear a mask during my newborn photoshoot?
This will depend on the current government restrictions for our area (Hertfordshire) at the time of your session. As it stands I wear a mask throughout all sessions, it is up to you if you wish to wear one during the session or not. I maintain social distancing from all family members other than the baby. Obviously if you do choose to wear a mask, when you are having your photograph taken, you will need to remove it briefly.
Will you need to touch the baby in order to carry out a typical newborn session?
Yes, I cannot pose a newborn baby without touching/holding the baby. This needs to be done by myself for safety reasons as I have been professionally trained in newborn photography and the art of posing safely. I am however offering more relaxed, lifestyle newborn photoshoots from my home studio in Buntingford, Hertfordshire, where I will not need to have physical contact with the baby. Please get in touch if you'd like more information about this.
How long will the session take?
Newborn photographers typically take around 2-4 hours to complete a newborn photoshoot. This completely depends on baby and how quick they are to settle. Completing the pre-session questionnaire enables me to have everything I need for your newborn photoshoot to hand and this will help to reduce session time.
Have you had the vaccine?
Yes. I was fortunate enough to be vaccinated with the first dose on the 20th December 2020 and expect to receive my second dose in the first week of March 2021.
What measures are in place to ensure my baby is safe?
I am maintaining social distancing within the studio wherever possible. I will be wearing a mask throughout your session. As a newborn photographer it is standard practice anyway for me to wash my hands regularly and use hand sanitiser throughout your session. The studio is now also being deep cleaned between each session.
What if a member of our household is unwell or has symptoms in the lead up to or the day of the session?
For the safety of myself and all my clients it is imperative you let me know as soon as possible if you or a member of your household develop symptoms or become unwell prior to your session. Even if that person is not planning to attend the session, we will still need to postpone until the isolation period has ended. I take the safety of all my clients, especially newborns very seriously. I will always make sure I can fit you back in for another session as soon as possible if you need to cancel due to illness.
Will I lose my deposit if I need to reschedule to illness?
Yes of course, as long as reasonable notice is given, your deposit will be transferred.
Please if you have any concerns or queries prior to your session pop me a message. No question is too silly to ask :) I am always happy to help wherever I can! This is a very exciting milestone for you and your baby and I am committed to making sure you get the most out of your newborn photoshoot and providing you the best experience possible. I am always happy to chat through anything with you prior to your session so that you know what to expect, when I am expecting you :)
