It was such a pleasure to welcome Daniel and his family to my Hertfordshire based photography studio.
It was my first time photographing Daniel and his older sister Matilda, but you wouldn't know it from how confident and comfortable they both were right from the outset. Daniel was charming us all with his gorgeous smile from the moment he arrived, and Matilda followed my directions beautifully to allow us to capture not just photos of the smash and splash session but some beautiful sibling portraits too.
I absolutely loved the setup Daniel's Mum chose for his session, a neutral background is a favourite of mine as it keeps the photos timeless and classy! A little pop of colour with the navy blue really bought the photos to life. My cake, as always, was made by the very talented Buttercream Delights, (based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire) and I think Daniel thought all his birthdays had come at once when he saw the size of it!
Daniel is so natural in front of the camera and that really makes for great photographs, there was lots of singing, dancing and jumping from us all to keep him entertained and stop him from crawling off to explore - but his smiles and expressions are all natural and real and that really came across through his cake smash photoshoot gallery.
Cake Smash Photoshoots are always a messy business but that's the great thing about going to a professional, the photography studio is purposefully designed to make for an easy clean-up and you don't have to worry about all of that. As soon as your baby has completed their splash bath and is nice and clean they can get off home - usually for a nice long nap! I take care of all of the clean-up, so the experience is as relaxing and stress free for you as possible!
Alot of parents expect to take their little ones home on a sugar high following a cake smash photoshoot but that's never really been the case for any of my clients, I've not had any children be sick in the car on the way home yet! Mostly they are exhausted from what is a really full on sensory experience for them, and have a really good snooze on the way home!
I think it's so important to include older siblings in the cake smash process, I'm always happy for them to get involved and have a slice of the cake - we can cut it from the back so it doesn't show in the photos. It avoids any jealousy and keeps them occupied so baby can have their own "moment" in front of the camera alone!
My aim with the cake smash photoshoots I offer is for it to be a fun and memorable experience for the whole family. If your partner is working, bring a doting Grandparent or Auntie with you and they can get involved in the fun too. It's such a huge milestone when your baby turns one, I want this to be a special part of your celebrations you can treasure forever so that when you look back on your images in years to come you feel genuine joy remembering how much fun your little ones had that day.
I am taking cake smash bookings right up until the end of 2021 - certain months are already very booked up, including November & December as this is my busiest period, please do get in touch early if you are hoping to book a celebration cake smash photoshoot for your little one's special day.
